HVMBLE
HVMBLE is a fresh and innovative jazz trio whose sound blends modern jazz aesthetics with strong influences of free improvisation. The band’s members are award-winning musicians and laureates of prestigious competitions, including Junior Jazz Festival, KraCamera Jazz, Sax Club Jazz Review, and the Blue Note Poznań Competition.
Mateusz Tomiak – Guitar
Mateusz Tomiak is a guitarist, composer, and bandleader of HVMBLE. Passionate about experimentation, he explores guitar effects, abstract soundscapes, and open approaches to music-making. A winner of the First Prize in the CEA Competition, he has performed at renowned events such as Love Polish Jazz Festival, Głogowskie Spotkania Jazzowe, Mrowna Jazz Festival, Good Vibe Festival, Jazzowe Pomorze Zachodnie, and Męskie Granie. He was also a finalist of Jazz nad Odrą 2024. Beyond the jazz scene, Mateusz collaborates with leading Polish artists, including Paktofonika, Rosalie., Zalia, and Zuzanna Malisz.
Kosma Góra – Bass Guitar
Kosma Góra is a bassist, improviser, and composer constantly searching for new forms of musical expression. He has appeared on prestigious festival stages such as Jazz Jantar, Bedem Fest, Love Polish Jazz Festival, and Jazz w Ruinach. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with respected figures in Polish music, including Henryk Miśkiewicz, Kuba Więcek, Paulina Przybysz, and Jan Młynarski. Kosma is a recipient of the First Prize in the CEA Competition, a scholarship holder of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and a finalist of Jazz nad Odrą 2024.
Wojciech “Greeny” Zieliński – Drums
Between 2020 and 2025, Wojciech “Greeny” Zieliński studied jazz drums at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw under the guidance of Dr. Cezary Konrad. He is a laureate of numerous jazz competitions, including Blue Note Jazz and Tarnów Jazz Contest. He has performed with acclaimed artists such as Henryk Miśkiewicz, Kuba Więcek, Kuba Badach, Natalia Muianga, Maryla Rodowicz, Marek Piekarczyk, Elżbieta Towarnicka, and Marcin Dorociński. A co-founder of HVMBLE, he is also a regular member of Wojtek Mazolewski’s Quintet and works as a versatile session musician across genres ranging from folk and hip-hop to fusion and free jazz. He has been awarded scholarships from the Pro Musica Bona Foundation and the City of Kraków.
Marcin Masecki
Born in 1982 in Warsaw, the pianist, composer, and arranger is a key figure of Poland’s contemporary improvised music scene, operating at the intersection of jazz, classical repertoire, and experimental practices. Between 2000 and 2002, he studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he developed an approach free from rigid genre divisions.
Earlier, as a member of the band Alchemik, he won first prize at the Jazz Hoeilaart Festival in Brussels (1998) and received an award for Best Soloist. After returning to Poland, he became a central presence within Warsaw’s alternative and improvised music scene associated with Lado ABC, co-founding projects such as Telewizor, Papierosy, TAQ, Paristetris, Profesjonalizm, and the trio Masecki / Rogiński / Moretti. His collaborations include work with Tomasz Stańko, Michał Urbaniak, Pink Freud, and Waglewski Fisz Emade.
In 2005, he was awarded first prize and a gold medal at the International Jazz Piano Competition in Moscow. His solo album BOB (2009) was widely recognised as one of the most original Polish releases of the decade. Alongside jazz, he has pursued radical reinterpretations of classical repertoire, exemplified by the lo-fi recording Die Kunst Der Fuge (2012). Together with Jan Emil Młynarski, he co-founded Jazz Band Młynarski-Masecki, whose debut album Noc w wielkim mieście was released in 2017.
Warsaw Village Band
Formed in Warsaw in 1997, the ensemble has, since the late 1990s, developed a distinct musical language rooted in Polish traditional music, historical folk instruments, and an open approach to form and improvisation. In 1998, the musicians received both Second Prize and the Audience Award at the Nowa Tradycja Polish Folk Music Competition, followed by the release of their debut album Hop SaSa later that year.
International recognition came with subsequent releases including Wiosna Ludu (2001) and Wykorzenienie (2004), distributed across Europe, North America, and Japan. In 2004, the group received the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music in the Newcomer category; Wykorzenienie later earned a Fryderyk Award and was shortlisted among the Grammy nominees in the polka category.
An important aspect of their activity involves projects extending beyond the folk idiom, such as collaboration with composer Jacek Wall on the soundtrack for Myst IV: Revelation, participation in film productions, and performances at major international festivals. Infinity (2008) was named World Music Album of the Year by PopMatters, while NORD (2012) ranked highly in the World Music Charts Europe and received the German Record Critics’ Award.
Today, Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa operates at the intersection of traditional music, contemporary improvisation, and expanded performance forms, maintaining a strong and consistent presence on the international world music scene.
